Alices Adventures in Wonderland (commonly Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 English novel by Lewis Carroll, a mathematics professor at Oxford University. It is supplemented by Schiller's index of Tenniel's original preliminary drawings for both ALICE and LOOKING-GLASS. This reference book includes a census of those copies that escaped Macmillan's recall, as well as a discussion of the book's tumultuous early publication history. The illustrator John Tenniel was famously displeased with the first 1865 printing of ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, which caused Macmillan to suppress their original run of 2000 copies.
